Linda’s Story for 28bysamwood

Our latest filming adventure shows how small this world is:

We were chosen from over 40 production companies in Edinburgh to capture the first in-person meeting between Australian celebrity couple Sam and Snez with Edinburgh based Linda. Linda first came across Sam and Snez on the Australian Bachelor and thought that they were brilliant together. When Sam posted on social media that he is starting the new fitness regime 28bysamwood, Linda knew that she had to join and it has changed her life for the better. 12 months later, not only is she lighter and fitter but also more confident, happy and resolved health issues due to being overweight.

Screen Shot 2017-02-13 at 15.32.12Screen Shot 2017-02-13 at 15.34.17

We filmed Sam and Snez arriving at Edinburgh airport and our cameraman Ian Dodds managed to contoured himself enough to capture them in our car on their way to Linda’s. We all had butterflies in our bellies because Linda did not know that we are coming but her genuine loveliness was pure gold for the camera. After a chat about her health and fitness journey, a sneak peak into her fridge and off we went for a work out on Arthur Seat at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh.

Please watch, follow and check out 28bySamWood! Enjoy!

Summer wedding videos: Eli and Ali

Eli and Ali, the finest Scottish – Catalan blend

(Text en català davall) / (Texto en español abajo)

One of the best things about wedding videos is that each one tells a different story. Every new couple brings its very particular flavour to the tone of the video and we pride ourselves in having filmed all kinds of ceremonies in different seasons, shapes and sizes. This time we had the pleasure to film a gorgeous Scottish/Catalan couple in a sweet and intimate summer wedding (scroll down for video).

A Real-Life Rom Com Story

Elisabet and Alasdair met on a sunny afternoon in Barcelona, Eli’s city of origin. He was on a stag weekend for one of his friends, having a drink in a terrace. She got off her motorbike and he spotted her across the street. Ali was stricken by the same hunch that his own grandfather had when he saw his future wife for the first time: “That is the girl for me!”-  The rest is history.

The couple organised a simple yet stunning wedding day for just their families, making it a perfect occasion to introduce both sides to each other. They had even more to celebrate since they were expecting the arrival of a beautiful baby girl.

The ceremony, held at the charming Duddingston Kirk, featured Bible readings and Celtic Blessings in English as well as song and poem passages in Catalan. We were a 2 camera team with one of our cameras being a static wide shot from a vantage point whilst the second camera, set up on a slider, closely followed the couple and captured beautiful details and moments from the guests.

After the ceremony the couple took the chance to have some of their wedding pictures taken in the gorgeous Dr. Neil’s garden right behind the kirk. Since Eli and Ali decided to get everything done by the same company, Creation Editor did also provide the wedding photography service.

The wedding party then moved to Prestonfield House, a beautiful baroque house hotel surrounded by enchanting gardens where peacocks ramble. They were driven by Ali’s dad in an elegant luxury car that Ali rented to surprise his bride on the day. That was not the only surprise: we had attached a GoPro camera inside the car to film the lovebirds on their way to Prestonfield.

Once in Prestonfield House, the couple were greeted again by the guests before continuing their photo shoot with this beautiful hotel as a background. Afterwards they all gathered for the cutting of the cake, dinner and speeches in Prestonfield’s tastefully decorated Garden Room. The flower arrangements were the perfect mixture of roses and thistles, with little ornaments representing both the Scottish tartan and the Catalan flag.

Both families put a great effort into getting to know each other a bit better: by giving their speeches both in English and Spanish, the fathers of bride and groom managed to have all guests laughing together at their jokes. During his speech Ali had some advantage since he speaks fluent Spanish. Who needs subtitles?

The last stage for us was to edit all the footage together to build a beautiful story. After the first cut was done, Eli and Ali came over to our office and had a look at the process to check that they were happy with everything. They chose all the music included in the edit as well as the style for the titles. As a final product they received full length DVDs and a short 10 minute password-protected Highlights edit to share online.

At Creation Editor we take absolute pleasure in capturing such a unique and irreplaceable moment in the life of a couple while everybody is enjoying their special day.

Capital Solutions new Inverness branch tour

We were pleased to be recently re-commissioned to produce a new video for Capital Document Solutions’ refurbished branch in Inverness: Highland Office Equipment. It is the latest of a series of video tours featured in Capital Document Solutions’ website, where you can have a look inside their offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and see their friendly staff in action (scroll down for video).

Capital Solutions HOE video

The full day shoot involved driving up to Inverness the night before to make the most out of the day.  When we arrived we were greeted by Capital Solutions’ lovely staff who assisted and guided us through the details of the refurbishment. That helped us capture the best shots to showcase the features of the enhanced facilities.

Just like in the previous tours, we filmed the different areas of the branch at work: from the call centre and sales team to the engineers at the workshop and the warehouse and logistics staff. This detailed insight gives the public an excellent example of the quality of service at Capital Solutions. In addition, we filmed close up shots of the brand new features like carpets, furniture and new efficient LED lighting.

Creation Editor presentations: How to make a great video

Creation Editor’s Director Sabine Klaus-Carter has given presentations at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh College and as of latest at Edinburgh University Business School for Finance and Napier University. In these presentations she gives an insight into the world of video production, starting from the basics.

Napier University

Videography involves different kinds of knowledge but producing a video can be made simple and easy depending on what is needed. Over the years, Sabine has also helped several clients and their staff with creating their own videos whether in weekend workshops, over lunchtime presentations as well as in 1-2-1 scenarios.

Luminate Talk

In March 2016, Sabine had the pleasure to share her knowledge about B2B and B2C marketing to the Master students in marketing at Napier University.

From the most commonly used filming devices to the importance of a quality audio recording as well as the main rules of editing, it is vital to consider these key points in order to obtain a professional looking video.

With her background in art activities for elderly and disabled, Sabine can also present alternative ways using new media as she did at her talk for Luminate Festival at Anderson Strathern.

Creation Editor presentations editing

Last year, together with Anna Ramsay, Sabine ran a three-day workshop at Cloud Festival teaching insights into how to work with camera, dance and how to add the magic in the edits.

Most tools to make your own simple video are there and often ready to hand and Sabine is passionate about helping to make a “basic” video look really good. Simply knowing the tricks of the trade is sometimes all it takes.

So, if you are looking for professional development workshops in videography, Sabine can offer the full range from pre-production to filming and editing whether for groups or 1-2-1 basis.

Shepherd and Wedderburn Property conference 2015

Shepherd and Wedderburn Property Conference 2015

In September we had the pleasure of filming at the Shepherd and Wedderburn Property Conference 2015 held at the EICC in Edinburgh (scroll down for video). We had recently produced another promotional video for this top law firm showcasing their participation in the World Water Congress earlier this year.

Shepherd and Wedderburn Property Conference 2015

Industry luminaries gathered to share their unique insights and to discuss the innovative solutions shaping the property sector. At Shepherd and Wedderburn Property Conference 2015 speakers like Colin Innes and Trevor Williams dispelled some of the popular myths relating to the private rented sector, explored how alternative models and collaborative working can help drive the development of new housing and considered why density and development size is an essential stimulus for sustainable growth. Speakers also considered what environment is required to attract the investment necessary and why adaptability of buildings should be front of mind at the planning and design stages in order to future proof our built environment against the shock waves of time, technology and change of use. The list of speakers included experts in the field like Ian Mulcahey, James Fennell, Duncan Sutherland and David Yaldron.

Shepherd and Wedderburn Property Conference 2015

Filmed at the EICC, as a two people camera crew we interviewed the speakers just before or after the sessions with minimal set up time. Most of the time we made the best out of the light available, making sure the right branding was present in the background.

Shepherd and Wedderburn Property Conference 2015

Once again we enjoyed being part of such exciting and insightful events and creating loads of wonderful slider shots to capture the engaging atmosphere of the event. Watch the video below:

PoLHA’s 40th Birthday with Thinktastic: This is Your Life

Over the summer we joined our friend Mike Stevenson, founder of Thinktastic, in the preparations of Port of Leith Housing Association‘s 40th birthday celebrations.

We took part in the project by filming and editing a short film that was shown at their birthday event on the 2nd of September. We shared many touching moments interviewing the association’s tenants, staff members and partners, who shared their stories and feelings looking back at their experience with PoLHA over the last 40 years.

The live event was skilfully orchestrated and conducted by Mike Stevenson, whose heartfelt speech quickly engaged the audience and triggered many Leithers’ memories. It is always a pleasure to see Mike’s ability to inspire in action. His intelligence and his versatility have led him and his Thinktastic team to proudly offer a whole range of services from motivational speaking and bespoke events to training and development courses for organisations.

Screen Shot 2016-01-13 at 16.17.09

The event took place at the Hibs’ stadium and was attended by 150 guests including PoHLA’s staff, tenants, partners and contractors. It is not every day that we have the opportunity to receive such a positive live feedback through the heart-warming reactions of our “film stars” as they saw themselves on screen for the first time. The film was so well received by PoLHA that they used some still images of it for their banners, which you can see in the event.

Our short film has been featured on POLHA’s website and you can watch it by clicking here.

POLHA event audience

The event was a big success and the best example of Port of Leith Housing Association’s good practice in their services, which have improved the quality of life of the community in Leith for the last 40 years. Please find here a snippet video edit of the event:

Shepherd and Wedderburn at the World Water Congress

This spring we produced a film to showcase the participation of the law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn at the World Water Congress in Edinburgh.

Water industry specialists and experts including government representatives, lawyers, regulators, environmental engineers and economists gathered at the World Water Congress held at the EICC.

We interviewed the Shepherd and Wedderburn representatives during the event, and also filmed the general atmosphere of the congress. We filmed with a two camera set up, using a slider in some of the shots to create a dynamic and appealing video.

Traverse Theatre Festival 2015 Trailer

This month we created the Traverse Theatre Festival 2015 Trailer to announce their Fringe programme. It was a graphics editing job which involved animating the titles and promotional pictures of all the scheduled shows. We matched the text to the gritty style and feel of the soundtrack “Hustle” with the hypnotizing voice of the local artist Lauren “Law” Holt. The edit was carried out using Adobe After Effects CC.

We also had the pleasure to attend the launch party for the programme and are very excited about the 20 shows and events, coming from all over Scotland, England, Ireland and Belgium. Traverse Theatre is a great treasure to have in Edinburgh.

Funded by the City of Edinburgh Council and Creative Scotland.

Macintyres of Edinburgh Wedding Event 2015

On the weekend of the 11th and 12th of April we were pleased to be exhibitors at the Macintyres of Edinburgh Wedding Event 2015. On this occasion Macintyres transformed their showroom to host their very own free wedding exhibition. Many Macintyres customers had the chance to browse the wide selection of wedding suppliers as they were choosing their wedding bands. The lovely couples were offered several discounts and lovely samples to take home (or eat on the spot!).

Macintyres of Edinburgh wedding exhibition

To add even more glamour to the event, there was a lovely catwalk fashion show by Emma Roy of Edinburgh, accompanied by the finest live music by Freak Music ‘ s live bands. As a welcome treat, champagne and canapes were provided by the wedding venue Divino Enoteca.

Macintyres of Edinburgh wedding event

All kinds of wedding services were offered in the exhibition, such as stationery, catering, flowers, cake, photography, entertainment and many more.

Here is the promotional video we produced about this wonderful event:

Many thanks to Macintyres for making this possible and also to the other suppliers we had the pleasure of meeting:

The art of colour grading: How to brighten up an image

Colour is one of the most important features of an image. It can radically alter our perception of what we see. Colour is directly linked to psychology and has always been used for triggering emotions through history. It has been present in every form of visual communication, from paintings to choice of clothing and, of course, cinematography. By colour grading a digital image we can make it more attractive to the eye or change the viewer’s perspective on the subject.

CE colour grading example Citrus Saturday

Starting from the basics

In videography, colour correction and grading are key to a visually appealing footage. It can be so complex that there are post production professionals who specialize in this process only.

The way we perceive colour is determined by the different kinds of light. We find two main colour atmospheres in digital imaging: Warm (colours approach the orange spectrum) and cold (the range of colour is closer to blue).

This parameter is called colour temperature and it’s considered basic knowledge in the audiovisual field. In the case of natural light, the position of the sun and the weather conditions can make the image look warm or cold. It’s the same with artificial light: the colours will look warmer or colder depending on the kind of light bulbs in the room.

Our case studies

As a filmmaker, the ideal scenario is to achieve the colours you want straight when you’re filming. That happens when you use specific lighting and camera settings to obtain the look you’re after or when that visual scheme is already present in the location. However, this is not always possible. Sometimes you will have to film a grey building on a cloudy day and there’s no camera settings that can help with that. Here’s when colour grading can come really handy.

Here are some real examples of situations we have faced in different shoots:

  • Before-Outdoor shot grading
    After-Outdoor shot grading
    Before Outdoor shot grading After

Cloudy days can help to have a soft lighting and get rid of hard shadows, but in return the sky doesn’t look great. If you add a grey building to the equation, the result is a rather flat and sad looking image.

In this shoot for i2eye Diagnostics we reduced the overall levels of yellow, then selected the sky area and applied a blue filter to cover up the grey. As a little extra, we scattered some white clouds over the original to turn the weather around. Not only the sky looks happier, but it helps the building stand out.

  • Before-Indoor shot grading
    After-Indoor shot grading
    Before Indoor shot grading After

When filming events, it is important to remember that the lighting in the venue is out of our control. That is why sometimes a correct camera setting is not enough and we eventually need to retouch colour afterwards.

In this case, we were at the Assembly Rooms, a beautiful and elegant venue in Edinburgh’s New Town. The problem was that there was a clearly dominant warm lighting provided by massive chandeliers, together with bone coloured walls. It looks beautiful to the human eye, since our sight balances colour automatically. Cameras are not that clever and feel “overwhelmed” by so much warmth, which gave us an overly orange raw footage. First we had to make a white balance correction in order to distinguish pure whites from warmer colours. Then we balanced the colour temperature by bringing orange and yellow a bit down and cold colours a bit up.

Par Equity Annual Event 2014

In December 2014 we filmed the Par Equity Annual Event, which was held at the George Hotel. We selected a few still images from it as the video is for internal use only.

Par Equity is an investment firm that brings a pragmatic, hands on investment approach and extensive business experience to investment opportunities that have the potential for significant returns.

At this end of year event, Par Equity presented their performance over the past months as well as a selection of their partners. Companies, investors and sponsors had the chance to catch up and have a chat while enjoying refreshments and canapes. It provided a perfect space to network and the opportunity to meet new companies and investors.

We helped Par Equity to organise a cost effective AV set up for the event in collaboration with Naked Events and Metro Ecosse.

We interviewed some of the investor and entrepreneur attendees, who gave us a lot of positive feedback about the many ways they have benefited from being part of this successful investment community.

Here is the list of sponsors that were key to a successful event for Par Equity:

Retina Photography Festival

Retina Photography Festival 2014

Last summer we were delighted to film the Retina Photography Festival 2014 launch event which took place on the 19th of July 2014 at the elegant Assembly Rooms.

Edinburgh, the festival capital of the world, will be hosting ‘Retina – Scottish International Photography Festival’ in July 2015 at some of the most unique and striking venues across the city. Retina is an exciting opportunity to celebrate not only the best in the world of photography but also the amazing emerging talent that Scotland has to offer.

Retina 2014 saw two of the industry’s most celebrated professionals, famous fashion and celebrity photographer Rankin with his exhibit “Portraits of Men” and international fashion model and photographer Helena Christensen, who alongside Rika Magazine was presenting her exhibit “A Private Moment“.

Testimonial by Edinburgh Young Carers Project

We received a lovely testimonial by Edinburgh Young Carers Project about the video we produced for them in April last year. We included some stills from it in this article so you can get a feel of how it looked, since the video was made for internal use only.

Edinburgh Young Carers Project is doing an amazing job by helping young people who have the massive responsibility of taking care of someone with different problems and needs at home. This voluntary organisation gives the young carers the chance to get a break, meet friends and have fun, supporting them in many different ways.

We are really happy to have the chance to help in projects like this, which mean such a relief for vulnerable people in difficult situations. This time we followed the group to a skate park, where they enjoyed a mix of activities including dancing, skateboarding and riding scooters and BMX bikes.

They even got to do some filming! How? Some of the young skaters had a GoPro camera attached to their helmet.

They had a celebration launch night where Sabine, young people and EYCP staff got together to watch the DVD. The young people were delighted and got so much out of the project and developing their ideas into a beautifully finished product they can be proud of. The DVD has been used at training events with teachers, social workers, community educators and events at places such as the Scottish Parliament and Edinburgh City Chambers.

Make sure to keep up to date with the Edinburgh Young Carers Project’s latest activities on their Facebook page. Don’t forget to hit Like!

Here is the scanned testimonial we received. Many thanks for your kindness, Edinburgh Young Carers Project!

MurleyDance 2014 Fringe show trailer

MurleyDance 2014 Fringe show trailer

This summer, we had the pleasure to work again with MurleyDance to help them promote their 2014 Fringe show, called Object Of My Affection.  We filmed and edited a trailer using iconic Edinburgh landmarks like Calton Hill, Grassmarket or the Royal Mile as the perfect background. The weather was on our side that day so we could film under a stunning blue sky!

This year’s show had a very good press visibility both in articles and reviews. Instead of talking about their beautiful concept, dancing technique and style, we rather let you see for yourselves. Ladies and gentlemen, here’s the MurleyDance 2014 Fringe show trailer:

Big Big Sing at Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014

In July we were delighted to work for Big Big Sing at Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014. It’s a fantastic UK-wide singing project to bring everyone together. This event had a massive participation of 65000 people. That’s a lot of singing, and everybody loved it!

Big Sing 3

We produced part of the backdrop visuals for the main stage and for the 2 side screens, during the show we were in the back of the van helping with the presenters’ prompts. It was really exciting to be so involved, with great events come great responsibilities!

Big Sing 2Big Sing1

Prior to the show we did rehearsal sessions at the Royal Opera House in Glasgow.

Big Big Sing

We really enjoy taking part in such inspiring projects like Big Big Sing, where people gets a great sense of community by singing together. It’s the kind of positive experience that makes everyone feel connected with each other. Big big fun for the young and the old, it was a pleasure to participate!

Braveheart at Dominion Cinema

Braveheart at Dominion Cinema

This year we couldn’t be more grateful to the amazing Dominion Cinema for choosing us to cover their Braveheart 20th Anniversary event, as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Braveheart at Dominion Cinema

At this commemorative screening we witnessed a truly exciting reunion of most members of the film cast, including our national treasures Brian Cox and Peter Mullan. The event also marked the film’s special Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD release for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Brian Cox at Braveheart reunion Peter Mullan at Braveheart reunion

The event was widely covered by the media (Herald Scotland, Daily Record) and featured a Q & A session with the cast members. It also included a video message from Mel Gibson, who sent his regards from his latest film set in the US. The film was screened right after the Q & A session.

The Dominion Cinema nailed their hosting role by creating the perfect atmosphere with “real” Highlanders, bagpipe playing, real fire and full tartan carpet to honor the film to perfection. What a wonderful day!

Promotional video for JCI Edinburgh

In June, we produced a promotional video for JCI Edinburgh which is now displayed on their website‘s front page.

JCI is an international self-development organization for people in their twenties and thirties. It helps them develop personal and business skills by running training courses and activities, and it also acts as a space for people to socialize and have a good time.

We had the chance to film one of their events with passionate contributions from their members. We were also provided with some photographs from other events which we animated and added to the video. It shows really well the high motivation of everyone involved, it was a real privilege to work with such a nice organization!

We received a lovely testimonial by JCI Edinburgh President Leeanne Bradley, thanks so much! It’s great to have feedback and it was a pleasure for us too.

And as a little bonus, yes, we do film in high heels:

Jargon dance film

Jargon dance film

Jargon is a short dance film and is part of ongoing research being carried out at the Dance Psychology Lab at the University of Hertfordshire. The work addresses how emotional expression is communicated and understood through the body and non-verbal behaviour. Can you really not judge a person on how they look? What do we actually see? It is often how an action is presented and judged that communicates our intended message, our emotion and personal history. A trace of the interpretation and essence of such actions is left behind to affect others within the room, influencing their subsequent actions. The work uses body language as linguistic cues to communicate emotional expression alongside the spoken word. The research and creation of Jargon has been funded by the Arts Council England and supported by UH Arts.

10 step guide for event filming: Converge Challenge video

How to make a great events video in 10 steps

Screen shot 2014-05-02 at 16.40.08small

Events filming is one of the main branches of videography. It constitutes a large part of the market and it’s crucial to get to master it. Each event comes with its particular challenges, but let’s have a look at the common factors that will prevent your production from failing, wether it’s a congress, a dance show, an awards ceremony or a theatre play:

1. Get all the information you need about the event with time ahead

Do some homework: the more you know about the event, the better. Things like content, participants or detailed schedules will help you plan the shoot and edit afterwards, and it will also get you closer to what the client has in mind. Don’t forget to ask for all this information with plenty of time in case anything needs to be discussed with the client, that way you can accurately advise on what is required to shoot according to what the client wants. When you have all that information, you’ll be ready to get a running order with all the needed details.

 2. Choose your equipment wisely

As obvious as this step may look, it can’t be stressed enough. Whether you are going to hire or purchase it, make sure you use a good camera and a good sound set up. While filming an event, there’s only one chance to get it right, so a bad image quality or a loss of audio feed could ruin the entire production. Make sure to test if everything works before the day of the event, to avoid as many unexpected problems as possible. To get the best audio quality, you should directly plug your equipment into the PA system of the venue if possible.

Corporate Video

3. Hire a second camera if the budget allows it

You may not need it if you are filming only for documentation purposes, but as soon as you’re asked for something more “creative” like a trailer or a promotional video, that involves a nice edit. For that you will need a spare camera unit to give you the set of shots you need to combine with the footage from the main camera, which will film the whole event nonstop as a master shot. With your second camera you can focus on shots that give visual variety to your edit, such as:

  • Outdoor shots of the venue entrance
  • Chatting attendees
  • Nice detail close ups of elements such as signs and leaflets

Screen shot 2014-05-02 at 16.46.23

4. Be ready to shoot in time

Give yourself a generous margin of time to check the place and set up. The ideal thing to do would be to go and see the venue a couple of days before the event, or as we say in film-making, to recce the location. It is well known that most set up mistakes go unnoticed because of a rushed arrival, so you know what they say: better safe than sorry.

5. Make everything run smoothly with skills and attitude

Always double check you have a good take of every shot you need to get for your edit: write it down if you need to. Only after you have your necessary footage you can film extra shots, don’t miss the point since time flies!

This job involves working under pressure, so keep calm even if everyone else is losing it. Your mind needs to be clear in order to take control of the situation and find quick solutions to unexpected issues. Also keep in mind that most people is not used to be in front of cameras. If you need to film an interview, be friendly and relaxed and guide them through the process, so it can be a nice experience for everyone.

6. It’s editing time! Ask for all extra material you need

Get all the text, images and logos that need to be included in the video (tip: images need to have the highest possible quality). Try to get the client to be as specific as possible so there’s less changes to deal with and the product can be ready as soon as possible.

7. Invite your client to preview the edit

This doesn’t necessarily apply to all projects, but it’s usually quite helpful. If you and your client have time, it always helps to sit together through the editing process. Do this after you have at least a first cut ready: you don’t want to bore your client to death with the so time-consuming first stage of the edit! This method helps you acquire the client’s vision of the product and saves feedback time. Which brings us to the next step:

8. Add and amend to your client’s taste

Some editors find this surprisingly difficult, but let’s not forget the video belongs ultimately to your client. No matter if they ask you to add a disco song in the background of an economy conference. Even if you know it’s not going to work, keep your personal taste out of the edit if it interferes with what your client wants. At the end of the day, clients can change their minds themselves but if you tell them to, they’ll end up blaming you if they’re not happy with the product. You’re only allowed to warn them about technical aspects of the edit.

That being said, it doesn’t mean you don’t have to…

9. Give advice and opinion if asked

Cast your own critical and knowledgeable eye and ear over the edit. Some clients will trust your opinion on the product, in which case you can use your experience to help them with ideas to make the video as visually attractive as possible.

10. Check everything is correct and deliver in a format that works best for your client

So you have finally finished your edit, time to export it and hand it straight to the client… WRONG! Technical errors can appear after rendering out the video file. Also you may have misspelt a title you typed, or forgotten to make even all audio levels. Watch it all through and make sure it looks exactly the same as it did in your editing software.

Depending on the nature and purpose of the video, clients will have different needs. Here are the most common ones:

  • Videos uploaded straight to Youtube or Vimeo
  • Video file sent via online transfer (they receive an email with a link to download the file)
  • DVD format (in this case you need to hand a master DVD and, optionally, a price for copies can be agreed)

Here’s an example of what your video should look like. Check out our Converge Challenge Event video for Open Innovation:

Citrus Saturday Edinburgh videos

As approved suppliers for the City of Edinburgh Council, for the last two years running we had the pleasure to film the Citrus Saturday Edinburgh events with exciting locations like Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Botanic Garden, Cameron Toll, Gyle Shopping Centre and Edinburgh Zoo.

Citrus Saturday is a part of the Open Innovation Project which is ERDF funded through the Interreg 1VB programme.

The project teaches pupils how to be enterpreneurs, from business planning to marketing and selling. Each group of students had to make their own citrus soft drinks and also prepare and run a stall to sell them.

Excellent results

With the help of their Edinburgh University mentors, the pupils worked like true professionals. They showed great initiative skills by making and naming their own lemonade recipes and also finding creative ways to boost sales. The reward to their motivation came in the form of many happy customers!

Citrus Saturday 2012

A pilot Citrus Saturday was held in Edinburgh on 21st April 2012 which offered 20 pupils from two local schools, aged 12-15, the opportunity to set up and run their own lemonade stand business for a day. The pupils made a total sales of £500 and sold 485 drinks from stalls in Cameron Toll Shopping Centre and The Royal Botanic Gardens. The kids were supported by 9 student mentors recruited by Edinburgh University Student’s Association. The day was based on the Citrus Saturday format which was developed by UCL Advances in London.

The project received fantastic feedback! Check out the video of the event below:

Turing Technology Festival coverage

In August 2012 we worked together with Edinburgh International Technology Festival and covered its very inspiring speeches. Turing brings together digital technology and the web within the world’s largest arts and creative gathering in a celebration of digital culture and creativity. Named in honour of Alan Turing, father of modern computing, the festival moves beyond traditional tech conferences to explore the ways in which technology is affecting all aspects of culture and society.

Here are some of the speeches we filmed:

Dr. Albert Yu-Min Lin is a Research Scientist at the University of California, San Diego and an Emerging Explorer of the National Geographic Society in the field of technology enabled exploration. Albert’s research has taken him into the most remote regions of the world, has led to industry changing innovations, and has expanded the role of media in science.

Albert Yu-Min Lin’s explorations are groundbreaking, because they never break ground. He uses non-invasive computer based technologies to gather, synthesise, and visualise data without disturbing a blade of grass. For Lin, cutting-edge tools such as satellite imagery, ground-penetrating radar, and remote sensors permit him to make archaeological discoveries while respecting the traditional beliefs of indigenous people. Today Lin and other researchers from a cross section of fields have at their fingertips a veritable high-tech toy store. It’s called the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2). Created by the University of California to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, it allows Lin to access an unparalleled array of digital 3-D immersive technologies and then link his efforts to those of other scientists.

Brendan Richardson‘s areas of expertise include venture capital investing, entrepreneurship, high-growth startups, developing entrepreneurial ecosystems, private equity and alternative assets.

Here he delivers a fantastic overview of what it would take to turbo charge the Scottish technology and web business scene.

Kevin Hand is an astrobiologist and planetary scientist. He works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) which is under contract with NASA, researching Europa and preparing to send an orbiting probe there. Planetary scientists believe a global ocean of liquid water swirls beneath the icy surface. “Europa is about the size of our own moon,” Hand explains. The precise timetable is uncertain, but an orbiting probe is projected to launch sometime around 2020, make its six-year journey to Jupiter, then spend two years touring the planet’s four largest moons before spiraling down into orbit around Europa. “By the time we get there,” Hand observes, “I’ll be a much older man. This business is not for the faint of heart.” A large antenna and several cameras will transmit pictures and data. The probe’s ice-penetrating radar will gather clues about the frozen shell’s interior structure, possibly identifying where ice and ocean meet. Other instruments will analyze surface chemistry, examine the magnetic field, and investigate radiation environments.

Since 1888 National Geographic has supported human exploration from the poles to the depths of the ocean and beyond, into space. The relationship between technology and human exploration is a fascinating one and the Turing Festival is proud to present you with a showcase of unique individuals who have each pushed the boundaries of human knowledge and experience.

Scientists, innovators and adventurers from the front lines of exploration and conservation will share their experiences and discuss the role of computing and technology in their work. In this video, the festival has a live video conference with members of the Exploration Vessel Nautilus, from the depths of the Mediterranean sea. They tell us some of their most recent and exciting discoveries, such as a fossilized whale skeleton.

Maggie’s Testimonial

22nd March 2013

Dear Sabine,

On behalf of everyone at Maggie’s I would like to personally thank you for your support of the Lisa’s Austerity Ball. The event was a hugely succesful and the donation of your time to create a short Maggie’s film was inmensely appreciated.

Your approach was insightful, professional and the manner of the filming captured what a Maggie’s centre is all about.

Having showed the video to many colleagues we have agreed to screen this at future events. The first of which will be our Ladies Lunch on 17th May 2013 at the Sheraton Hotel which will be attended by over 500 guests. We believe that the power of the film will undoubtedly add something special to the event and give everyone in attendance a true piece of Maggie’s to take away with time.

We are busier than ever here in Edinburgh seeing over 75 people everyday and over 17,000 this year. This figure continues to rise with even more expected through the door in 2013. It is wonderful that more and more people are becoming aware of the work that we do and accessing the support we can offer.

People with cancer need Maggie’s on the doorstep of their hospital which makes your support so essential. It is only with the commitment and generosity of those who contribute to our work that we can continue growing and supporting many more people affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Anderson
